Is Cerefolin NAC Right For You?

Cerefolin NAC is a prescription medication designed to help those people who have beginning stages of memory loss. The company behind this product is Pan American Laboratories, Inc.

As it is a prescription medication, it requires a physician’s prescription in the United States. This drug is listed as a medical dietary supplement and its intended use is to aid in slowing memory loss.

According to the manufacturer, this drug works by providing the body with folate, vitamin B12, and a form of antioxidant, which helps to reduce or eliminate oxidative stress and lower homocysteine levels.

Please keep in mind that Cerefolin NAC is a prescription drug and it may not be recommended in some medical conditions. We strongly advise patients to talk with their doctors or pharmacists before taking this drug.

Ingredients of Cerefolin NAC

Cerefolin NAC includes the following ingredients: L-methylfolate 5.6mg, Methylcobalamin 2mg, N-acetylcysteine 600mg, Microcrystalline Cellulose, Opadry™ (Hypromellose), Talc, Titanium Dioxide, Polyethylene Glycol, Saccharin Sodium and Magnesium Stearate (Vegetable Source).

Effectiveness of Cerefolin NAC

Cerefolin NAC works by increasing certain hormones in the body that are responsible for good memory and are able to pass the blood brain barrier (a membrane, or sack which completely surrounds your brain, filters your blood before it enters the brain).

Please remember that although this is able to pass the blood brain barrier, it is still an artificial means of stimulating the neurotransmitters in the brain. Now, in some patients, this may be the last resort if the memory loss is serious, but most other people should not try this unless they have first tried other natural options.

The option we highly recommend, and the only one scientifically validated is by using amino acids supplementation that also contains the needed neuro-nutrients that your brain demands. This will establish the nourishment that your brain needs in order to have it working as it should.

The drawbacks of Cerefolin NAC, are listed above (that it is an artificial means of stimulation and you will need to rely on it for the foreseeable future). Other drawbacks are that this is only available via prescription (at the time of writing). This drug is also not effective for individuals who have digestive issues, as this will not allow the absorption of the medication.

The official website states that this drug is only for the reason of increasing memory, but other websites have given other reasons not indicated on the official website. We recommend you do not follow this advice.

Just like all others prescription drugs, Cerefolin NAC has been associated with many side effects. The minor side effects include bloated feeling, headache, itching, mild diarrhea, mild fever, nausea and vomiting. The more severe ones include severe allergic reactions (rash, hives, difficulty breathing, tightness in the chest, swelling of the mouth, face, lips, or tongue), lower back or side pain.

Cerefolin NAC Price

Cerefolin NAC is available by prescription only. Prices may vary depending on the method used to pay for it. The cost of the doctor’s visit should also be included in cost calculations. This product may also be available for online purchase through websites located in other countries than the United States.

Does Cerefolin NAC Work?

The effectiveness of Cerefolin NAC is the topic of several medical studies. According to these studies, patients suffering from mental memory issues need to increase their folic acid intake. This drug contains the right ingredients that do that. Based on some of these studies, consumers who are using this drug think faster and their mental reaction time is faster than it was before taking Cerefolin NAC.

However, please keep in mind that this is a prescription drug and is available for purchase with a doctor’s written permission only. Also, just like with all other chemical drugs, Cerefolin NAC has been associated with many side effects.

While this product may look promising, we believe that there are better alternatives out there. Thus, we advise our readers to further research into possible alternatives and talk with their physician before making a final decision.

This medicine did not help at all. I did not see a bit of difference in my sons behavior. It did not help him concentrate more at all.

This helped me to get my brain back. I take a medicine for epilepsy that lowers the amount of folate in the brain, causing side effects such as word finding difficulty – literally you cannot think of simple words like chair for example, a feeling of fogginess and short term memory issues. Three weeks after taking this my mind just suddenly clicked!! A few months later my doctor upped my dose. So if this doesn’t work for you after a month, ask to have your dose increased. I’m so thankful for this medication, one with zero side effects to boot!

Right after entering menopause, I noticed that I was having trouble with word association much like you, Emily. I would see a chair, could describe it as a piece of furniture that you sit on, but could not think of the word “chair”. This was an on and off again problem. Some days were worse than others. My doctor prescribed Cerefolin and I have notice a really big difference! It took about a month to see the biggest gains, but as long as I take it, my word association problems have virtually disappeared. This was truly a life saver for me!

What medication do you take for your epilipsy?

MOM January 21, 2012 at 7:42 AM

My daughter was failing her classes in college after being an honor student for 10 years due to memory. She could not retain information, and even forgot she had an online cleass one semester. We got her a medical withdrawl and this is one of the medication her Dr. put her on. The other is Phosphatidyl Serine. It has helped her alot, and she notices a huge difference if she misses a day, Her depression has lifted, and she is sleeping much better and is finding it easier to get out of bed in the mornings. I would recommend trying this knowing the pain and frustration she went through.

Because my mother had Alzhiemer’s, I am constantly concerned that I might succumb to the illness as well. I have been taking Cerefolin for about 4 months as a hopeful hedge against the disease. In reading the information above, I noticed that it suggested a better option “amino acids supplementation that also contains the needed neuro-nutrients that your brain demands”. I am curious what product that might be.
Thank you,
S. Barnes
